Load heavy debris only halfway up the walls, for highway weight limits. Not sure? We size it with you on the phone.
A 10 × 12 ft patio, 4 inches thick, weighs about 3 tons.

Concrete, dirt, brick, rock and sand go only in the 10-yard and 15-yard dumpsters, loaded no higher than halfway up the walls. Highway weight limits set that rule: a full box of heavy debris would be too heavy for a roll-off truck to haul legally on Texas roads.
How much does broken concrete weigh?
Normal-weight concrete weighs about 150 lb per cubic foot. A 10 × 12 ft patio, 4 inches thick, is 40 cubic feet, or about 6,000 lb (3 tons). In a 10-yard dumpster with 2 tons included, that is about 1 ton over, which adds about $75. Measure the slab before you book.
| Slab | Volume | Weight (about 150 lb/ft³) | Fits |
|---|---|---|---|
| 8 × 10 ft, 4 in | 27 ft³ (1 yd³) | about 4,000 lb (2 tons) | 10-yard, within 2 tons |
| 10 × 12 ft, 4 in | 40 ft³ | about 6,000 lb (3 tons) | 10-yard, about 1 ton over ($75) |
| 12 × 16 ft, 4 in | 64 ft³ | about 9,600 lb (4.8 tons) | 15-yard, about 2.3 tons over (about $173) |
| Two-car driveway, 20 × 20 ft, 4 in | 133 ft³ | about 20,000 lb (10 tons) | Several 10 or 15-yard loads |
Formula: length × width × (thickness in inches ÷ 12) × 150 lb. Rebar and thick edges add weight. The landfill scale ticket sets the final number.
What is a clean load, and why does it matter?
A clean load holds one heavy material and nothing else: only concrete, or only dirt, with no trash, wood or roots mixed in. Clean loads qualify for special clean-fill pricing. Mix in other debris and it is billed as a regular mixed load, still limited to the halfway line.
Ask for clean-fill pricing when you call (254) 254-5880. Tell us if the concrete has rebar or wire mesh.
How much does dirt weigh in a dumpster?
Dirt typically weighs a ton or more per cubic yard, and more when wet. A 10-yard filled halfway holds about 5 cubic yards, which can reach 5 tons, about 3 tons over the 2 included. Measure the dig, keep it covered from rain, and ask about clean-fill pricing.
