A single bathroom remodel fits a 10-yard dumpster. A full kitchen remodel needs a 20-yard. Flooring and drywall from two or three rooms fits a 15-yard. A whole-house remodel or an addition needs a 30-yard. Tile floors and plaster walls are heavy, so size up for volume but watch the tons.
| Remodel | Typical size | Watch for |
|---|---|---|
| One bathroom | 10-yard | Tile, mortar beds and cast-iron tubs are heavy |
| Two bathrooms | 15-yard | Same as above, doubled |
| Kitchen | 20-yard | Stone counters and tile floors |
| Flooring, 2–3 rooms | 15-yard | Wet carpet and pad add weight |
| Whole house | 30-yard | Plaster walls weigh far more than drywall |
How heavy is remodel debris?
Remodel debris averages about 417 lb per cubic yard for mixed construction debris and about 467 lb for drywall, using EPA factors. A full 20-yard of mixed remodel debris weighs about 4.2 tons, which is about 1.2 tons over the 3 included. That adds about $88 at $75 per ton.

Does my older home need lead or asbestos precautions?
Homes built before 1978 may contain lead paint, and paid renovators there must follow lead-safe practices (EPA Renovation, Repair and Painting Rule (40 CFR 745)). Older textured ceilings, flooring and pipe wrap may contain asbestos, which needs testing before it is disturbed (EPA asbestos NESHAP, 40 CFR 61.145). Asbestos material cannot go in our dumpsters.

Where can old appliances from a kitchen remodel go?
Old ranges, dishwashers and cabinets can go straight in the dumpster. Refrigerators and freezers hold Freon, so each costs $50 to dispose of in a Knox Bros dumpster. The disposal facility recovers the refrigerant before scrapping it, as federal rules require.
